10. Mr Eion Coffee Roaster
9 Dean Park St, Stockbridge, Edinburgh EH4 1JN
Although small, we’ve heard good things about Mr Eion coffee roasters, who offer exquisite coffee found in three locations across Edinburgh. Worth a trip if you’re in Scotland’s capital. They ethically sourced their coffee with the help of DR Wakefield and they have hinted they are looking to get B-Corp soon! They have some delicious coffee form interesting coffee regions such as Papa New Guinea. They have a great rating of 4.8/5 on Facebook. Not surprised with great coffee in a great comfy spot.

Established in 2018, Common Coffee offers a cracking selection of coffee blends, which you can find on their website, in London, or if you are around in Edinburgh, head straight to Edinburgh Mayyn Café for a cup of their finest brew. They have four flavour-led roasts: Strong, Sweet, Bright and Complex (as well as a Decaf). The origins change with the seasons. They are also 1% for the Planet.

This coffee roasters in Glasgow focus on quality and this shines through in the beatifically smooth balanced coffee that they serve. You can visit their namesake café or order their beans straight to your door, easy as you like. All of their cafe takeaway packaging is fully recycled and biodegradable. Rated 4.5* on Yelp.

Thomson’s coffee roasters was founded in Glasgow in 1841 making it the oldest roasters on our list. Being a family owned business, Thomson brings a togetherness like no other, ensuring quality beans and ethicality. They are still 100% family owned and Scottish owned. Glen Lyon Coffee began their trade at the top of Glenlyon, Scottish Highlands. They later moved their roastery lock, stock and barrel to Aberfeldy, producing fine coffee beans for us to enjoy! Quoted by Glen Lyon, “all of our speciality coffee are 100% traceable and ethically sourced” and “we pay the coffee farmers we work with significantly above Fairtrade prices.” - what a great team they have running together!

Dear Green Coffee, a lovely coffee roaster in Glasgow, pursues excellence in coffee, working with the community to ensure the standards they have align with those around, with a focus to meet their ethical policies and have a great connection with other coffee producers. Dear Green quote, “Every bean is well considered, well sourced and only sold if it meets our QC tolerance.” - a coffee lover’s dream!
They are also the organisers of the much loved Glasgow coffee festival, which brings all the best Scottish coffee roasters together each year, usually held in May.
1. Unorthodox Roasters, Kinross and across Scotland
Unorthodox Roasters, 129 High St, Kinross KY13 8AQ
As many of our members may know, Unorthodox is a RiSE favourite, with their “Mindblown” coffee from Papa New Guinea coming in at number 1 as voted by our members last year (2020-2021). After a 10.5 month trip across South America the founders set up their own roastery in Scotland, and are now stocked across the country. We shouldn’t be biased but this is probably the best coffee in Scotland!
