Founder Iain has pledged to give back to a number of different global projects to support coffee regions that he sources coffee from. 

Iain and RISE have teamed up to foster an ongoing relationship and Iain will be supporting our Friendly Coffee Fund project in Africa, Uganda. Iain has pledged to give 10% of his retail sales of African coffee to our project and buy having another roaster on board we will be able to help even more children attend school and receive an education, when they would otherwise be working on coffee farms.

ATLANTIC FOREST REFORESTATION PROJECT, BRAZIL

10% of the price you pay for 'You've Got A Blend In Me', 'Aruco', 'From Mió to You' and 'Prêmio' goes towards a reforestation project in The Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil, in partnership with Tree-nation, and award winning Brazilian NGO Copaíba. The Atlantic Forest is one of the most endangered and biodiverse biomes in the world, and Copaíba runs an all-encompassing project, covering sustainable reforestation of native species, environmental education, and distribution of outreach kits.

An increase in coffee growth since the 18th century directly led to an increase in deforestation as more land was cleared for coffee plantations. This has caused loss of habitat driving animals to extinction, water crises, soil degradation, and an increase in co2 release, directly contributing to climate change. But the comeback is on. Since its foundation, Copaíba has restored 4,000,000 m2 of Atlantic Forest in the region by planting 580,000 native saplings, of 160 native species. Every purchase you make of our South American coffee helps to drive this reforestation forward.

Their Goal:

Our goal is simple! We want to offset 50 tonnes of Co2, by supporting the reforesting the Atlantic Forest. This means planting 360 trees of different species, carefully chosen by our project partners to grow the biodiversity in the region.

WithOneSeed Community Forestry Programme

WithOneSeed community forestry program, developed by xpand Foundation, is the first social enterprise acting on climate change through community lead forestry in Timor-Leste. It is dedicated to improving the resilience of subsistence communities to make environments sustainable, to end poverty and hunger, to deliver regen education and to create regional and international partnerships.

Over the last 11 years WithOneSeed has been working with farmers to turn trees into income. Through the WithOneSeed program, tree nurseries are set up in remote villages and local subsistence farmers receive an annual payment to plant and grow these seedlings on their land. Through this activity, WithOneSeed is helping to mitigate climate change and break the cycle between tree loss and poverty.

The environmental benefits of WithOneSeed are significant. In addition to helping reduce atmospheric carbon levels, reforestation reduces soil erosion, improves soil and water quality, thereby impacting crop yields and nutrition, leading to better health and well-being of communities and promoting regenerative development.

The social and economic benefits of WithOneSeed are also substantial. WithOneSeed can double the annual incomes of subsistence-farming families with incentive payments, a small amount per tree for each year the tree is alive, generated from the sale of carbon credits. The additional income is increasing financial independence and freedom to make choices about how families live, including, for many, making it possible for their children to complete their schooling. The program is helping to build the local economy, boost education and training, and increase social and economic participation.

The program achievements to date:

- Over 1200 tree farmers engaged in community forestry

- Over 400,000 trees under management

- Over 80,000 t CO2e removed from the global atmosphere

- Nearly US $800,000 paid into the Baguia village economy since 2010

As with all international certifications, WithOneSeed is required to undertake regular independent third-party audits of all our activities.

Adopting trees allows farmers to put even more resources into reforesting their communities, provides financial incentives, and directly contributes to CO2 sequestration.
